Manholes aren’t really artists’s first choice. However 95% of Japan’s 1,780 municipalities you will find artistic manhole covers unique to each city and town. It has become apart of the country’s national culture and it’s fascinating to see the different designs and styles that each town and city has chosen to represent them. With over 6,000 manhole cover artworks, it’s no surprise that spotting and photographing them has become a hobby for many.

Cutest Hello Kitty Dentist Opens In Tokyo

There really is a Hello Kitty dentist in Koto-ku, Tokyo. Definitely the pinkest and cutest dentist on earth. The clinic is called “Hearts Dental Clinic.”

The reason for making a “Hello Kitty” dental clinic isn’t simply that Japan is crazy for Kitty it is but rather, the clinic uses the character as a way to make going to the dentist less nerve racking for patients, especially younger ones. This is one of the major reasons why Japanese pre-school buses look like giant puppy dogs or Pokémon characters. Their cute characters make kids want to ride them much more than a boring old bus.

Comiket 2011

Comiket, stands for “Comic Market”. Comiket is so well known that it needs no explanation. It is a festival for manga creators, collectors, cosplayers, and fans to get together in a huge area. It is the world’s largest self-published comic book fair.

Comiket takes place twice a year in Tokyo, once in August and again in December.
